Promises not kept

Verse 1
I wake up every morning, coffee in my hand,
Workin’ hard all day just to make a stand.
But when the taxman comes, he takes his share,
Leavin’ me wonderin’ if life’s really fair.

Chorus
Oh, the taxman’s got me feelin’ low,
While the politicians put on their show.
They’re wastin’ our money, can’t you see?
This ain’t the way it’s supposed to be.

Verse 2
They promise us roads and bridges so fine,
But all I see are potholes in line.
They say they’ll fix it, but the years roll by,
And I’m left wonderin’ why they even try.

Chorus
Oh, the taxman’s got me feelin’ low,
While the politicians put on their show.
They’re wastin’ our money, can’t you see?
This ain’t the way it’s supposed to be.

Bridge
They’re livin’ large in their fancy suits,
While we’re out here just payin’ our dues.
Dreamin’ of change, a better day,
But it feels so far away.

Verse 3
So I’ll keep on playin’ my ol’ guitar,
Singin’ these blues ‘neath the evening star.
Hopin’ one day they’ll hear my song,
And make things right where they’ve been wrong.

Chorus
Oh, the taxman’s got me feelin’ low,
While the politicians put on their show.
They’re wastin’ our money, can’t you see?
This ain’t the way it’s supposed to be.

Outro
Yeah, this ain’t the way it’s supposed to be,
Lord, help us find some liberty
