On this fourth day of July we stand,
Beneath the flag of this great land,
And remember those who dared to dream
Of liberty’s eternal gleam.
They crossed the Delaware’s icy flow,
Through Valley Forge’s bitter snow,
With muskets raised and spirits high,
Beneath a star-filled summer sky.
The farmers left their fields to fight,
The merchants closed their shops that night,
Young mothers kissed their sons goodbye,
As freedom’s call rang through the sky.
At Lexington the shot was heard,
At Bunker Hill they kept their word,
Through Yorktown’s siege they would not yield,
On every hard-fought battlefield.
They signed their names with trembling hands,
Pledging lives to free these lands,
“Our lives, our fortune, sacred honor”—
Words that made tyrants into goners.
Now children play where heroes bled,
We walk the paths where they once tread,
The churches ring, the eagles soar,
Because they opened freedom’s door.
So when the fireworks light the night,
And sparklers dance with silver bright,
Remember those who paid the cost
For every freedom that we’ve cross.
Their sacrifice, their courage true,
Made possible this world for you,
Where dreams can flourish, voices ring,
And liberty makes every heart sing.
On this Fourth of July we say:
Thank you for America today.
